I’ve heard about this Meg Ryan-Billy Crystal classic for years, but somehow I hadn’t gotten around to watching it. So I figured that I could see what all the fuss is about and so I bought the movie. What do I have to lose, right? Besides, I’ve spent the entire summer lying around the house anyway, so what difference could another romantic comedy make, right?
But I’m not a huge Meg Ryan fan. I mean, she’s like The Queen of sappy romantic comedies. Take Sleepless in Seattle, for example. It was fine. Not embarrassingly sentimental like those stupid Freddie Prinze Jr. movies, but come on. Meg Ryan is just…bad. You’ve Got Mail was horrible. I’ve given Tom Hanks the benefit of the doubt, since I kind of liked Cast Away. Other than that, Meg Ryan’s entire acting career can be summed up as being blah.
So, I spent Wednesday night with a bag of chips and of course, Harry and Sally. I see what all the fuss is about now. It’s pretty good. Billy Crystal is just adorable in the movie. And I have concluded that Meg Ryan isn’t so horrible after all. I mean, the whole orgasm-in-the-diner scene was hilarious, so points for her.
